The Latino Scholarship Fund, Inc., was founded in 1994 by a group concerned that less than 20 percent of Danbury High School’s Latino graduates were going on to higher education. That was the lowest percentage of any ethnic group within the graduating class. To date the Latino Scholarship Fund, Inc. has raised and awarded more than $800,000 in scholarship money to more than 500 Latino high school graduates throughout the Greater Danbury area,
Application for this scholarship is open to Latino high school seniors attending high schools or residing in Fairfield County Connecticut or the Town of New Milford, Connecticut. As a matter of policy, a “Latino” shall be defined as any person at least one of whose parents and/or grandparents were born in any of the recognized Spanish speaking countries.
Requirements:
1. An applicant is a senior in high school with anticipated graduation from an accredited high school.
2. Applicant shall anticipate enrollment in a U.S. college or university.
3. Applicant will be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or approved for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA).
4. Applicant will fill out the enclosed application form.
5. Applicant must include copies of the following:
a. IRS 1040 Forms (First 2 Pages only), for mother, father, guardian, step-mother, step-father, self, etc.
b. Transcripts (unofficial copies are acceptable, minimum GPA of 3.0)
c. 2 Letters of Recommendation from non-family members (examples: Employer, Teachers, Clergy, etc.)
d. Essay
Applicants will be evaluated by the Selection Committee and interviews are required for selected participants.

Criteria for awards are determined based upon Interview, Financial Need, Character, Integrity and Involvement in the Community. The number of awards shall be determined based upon relative need and the availability of funds. The Selection Committee’s decision shall be final.
